Oirthir is a story of culinary passion and adventure, built on the expertise and love shared by the owner’s husband-and-wife team of chefs. Originally from Scotland, both are classically French trained and have honed their skills in Michelin-starred kitchens in Scotland.

Their journey took them to New Zealand’s cool little capital of Wellington in 2014, and then to the vibrant culinary city of Melbourne in 2017.

In 2019, they took a honeymoon to Tasmania, a trip that left an indelible mark on them. They fell in love with the island’s natural beauty, rich food culture, and vibrant local produce. Drawing inspiration from both the rugged Scottish roots and the sophisticated techniques of French culinary tradition, they focus on creating dishes that respect and enhance the natural bounty of Tasmania’s land and sea.

This deep connection to Tasmania led to the creation of Oirthir, a restaurant that celebrates both their Scottish heritage and the incredible ingredients and flavours of Tasmania.
